Prepare for Job Shadow: AEIOU

  1. Activities: what questions do you have about the activities that a software developer does on a daily basis?
  • How many hours in a week are actually spent writing code?
  • Is your job mainly creating new features, fixing code, updating dependencies.. etc?
  • What is your team communication like? How often are you working with others?
  1. Environment: what questions do you have about the overall environment and culture of this workplace?

Week 3

1. Back to your resume and cover letter you've been working on: What other next steps do you want to take to make these two components stronger?

  • I need to update my projects as the mod goes by to reflect my most recent technologies and portfolio. To make it stronger I need to work more on incorporating what makes me different than my peers and personalize it with respect to my skillset.

2. Outreach Brainstorming: Either explore the company you wrote a cover letter for or find a new company to explore this week; Go to their company LinkedIn page and start to explore the employees. Who are a couple people you could reach out to? Why?

React Router Prework

This gist contains a short assignment I'd like everyone to complete before our formal lesson. The prework involves reading some of the React Router documentation, and will allow us to keep the lesson more hands on.

Instructions

  1. Fork this gist
  2. On your own copy, go through the listed readings and answer associated questions
  3. Comment a link to your forked copy on the original gist

Week 2

1. Find a position or use a position you've put on your Huntr board and write a cover letter for that position in a Google doc or gist. Reference these cover letter resources as well as the session to complete your cover letter. Post the link to your cover letter here

Not Huntr, but a position on indeed for a web developer at SpaceNav.

Here is a screenshot of my cover letter: Screen Shot 2021-02-10 at 2 21 35 PM

Mod 3 Prework Questions

What is a "data model", and how does it relate to the DOM in a front-end application?

A data model is a model that relates the abstractions of real-world objects and their interactions. The DOM is a visual representation of different elements of the data-model represented visually to the user.

What is a "framework?" And how does it differ from a "library?"

A framework is a platform for software development. It's different from a library in that if you use a framework you are subject to the constraits of what is provided. If you incorporate a library you can pick and choose when and how to apply it in your application. A framework, by contrast, is an all or nothing experience.

Week 5

1. Review your habit tracker: how did you monitor your habit(s)? What does this tell you about your overall progress becoming the person you want to be? In general, how satisfied are you with how you spent your time this module? What could be improved next module?

  • Truth be told I have very little time to monitor habits. The last 3 weeks of the Mod didn't seem to leave time for virtually anything besides project work. The number of 9am to 9pm days that occured in the last three weeks was pretty staggering. That said, I'm satisfied with how I spent my time. Outside of the workload my biggest goal in life is to continue to foster and maintain my relationship. This is how I spent the majority of my non-working time in the last three weeks. What a whirlwind.

2. Mind Maps:

i. Engagement. What did you reflect on last week in regards to when you're engaged in your work at Turing? Pull out an idea that resonates with you most (e.g., "Talking through a problem with a partner," "T

Week 3

1. Assess your habits from week 2: how did you spend your time this past week? What was effective in your habits? What could be more effective? What steps will you take to make that happen?

I spend my time fairly effectively. Considering the workload I did a good job not coding late into the night and keeping myself with a good night time routine. I was getting to bed earlier and I know that helped. I could still be better about waking up earlier.

2. Reflect on how you’ve spent your time so far at Turing to gauge your engagement and energy:

  • When have you been excited, focused, and enjoyed your work?
