I bought a Clevo barebones system called "InfinityBook Pro 13" by "TUXEDO Computers". Here's my impressions.

Tuxedo InfinityBook Pro 13

Note: This is some Clevo barebones.

Pros and Cons

Drawbacks

  • There is light noise on the headphone port if a microphone is plugged into the microphone port. Without, there is no audible noise.
  • The touchpad is garbage. Weird surface, doesn't recognise finger pressure or movements that well. The minimum amount you need to move a finger to make the pointer move is noticeably high, which is bad on a touchpad that small. Two-finger scrolling is sketchy as well.
  • The touchpad's buttons are not that great. Clicking very fast leads to some dropped inputs. Clicks do not feel all that nice, notably because the two buttons are one physically continuous piece of (aluminised?) plastic that's fixated in the middle, so how the click feels depends on where your finger is placed horizontally along that strip.
  • While the screws on the bottom are easy Phillips-style screwheads, I couldn't get the bottom cover off even after unscrewing all of them.
  • The power button is placed weirdly and doesn't feel very nice.
  • Caps Lock key doesn't have an indicator light.
  • Laptop speakers seem worse than usual.

Good things

  • Construction feels okay otherwise, the shell fits together well, the hinge feels good.
  • USB ports have proper grip to them, so USB devices you plug in don't just wiggle themselves loose. This may change over time though.
  • Keyboard feels acceptable for a laptop keyboard. Dedicated buttons for Delete/Insert/Home/End/Page Up/Page Down.
  • Fan is really quiet. You will not hear it during normal operation.
  • The weird ethernet fold-down hinge thing actually works.
  • Suspend and Hibernate work out of the box, tested with Kernel 4.13.8.
  • The monitor is an IPS panel, so the colour reproduction seems good.
  • Seems to support Linux quite well out of the box.

Notes

  • Holding F2 during boot is how you get to the UEFI/BIOS. F12 or Delete won't work.
  • Waking up from Suspend requires you to press the power button. There could be a Wake-on-Keyboard option I didn't enable though.
  • Tuxedo Computers included a lot of free goodies with my order, which is kinda cool.
  • The Wi-Fi chip is part of the configuration.
  • Shipped power-brick does not have a power indicator LED, may be a good thing for people who sleep in the same room as where their devices are.

Not tested

  • Internal SATA slots (Couldn't get the laptop open.)
  • HDMI output.
  • Webcam.
  • miniDP output.
  • USB-C/Thunderbolt.
  • SD card reader.
  • Internal microphone (lol.)

In Closing

So far, it seems to be solid hardware let down by its shitty touchpad. I will see over the next year how durable it is.
