This script is intended for TedM, a crouton enthusiast like me but is available to anyone with crouton chroots and multiple targets installed.

PLEASE USE AT YOUR OWN RISK ;)

Dennis, this worked perfect. What a great utility that tracks DE's and lists them with chroots.

My first suggestion would be to integrate David's croutonversion -d update (if there is a newer version).

Perhaps it could be a menu listing like check to see if your crouton is the latest, then report back if it's the most current and if not, wget the latest and put it in /usr/local/bin

This integration would save a user having to check crouton versions to see if they should update or if their targets are already up to date.

Very nice script Dennis! Thanks.

Ted,
I may do that, I already have a script that checks the crouton version and updates the local one if needed so I could probably work that in to this script without starting from scratch.

Ted,

I've updated the script to optionally check for a new version of crouton for the selected chroot and did a few more, okay, a lot more tweaks.

Try it out when you get a chance - hope it still works for you :)

My only request is that if you're wgetting the file to check for updates, please use the alternate download link that's in croutonversion (they point to the same destination).

@dnschneid

Oh wait, you're using croutonversion directly. That works well too!

@david, I make a valiant effort but I fall short in a lot of areas. If you could point me to a good source for sh/bash scripting techniques/best practices I'd be grateful.
I don't think the bash requirement is really necessary or desired here, I could replace the ~/ syntax with $HOME etc. but I'm not sure about all the single & double bracket [, [[ business. I also just discovered the "${0##*/}" and it's variations in your scripts but I haven't yet found a good source explaining it.

Thanx again for this really cool project!

Some fairly significant changes made in the last update.
Most of them concerning updating 'crouton' and applying it to both the system and the chroot.

...Get it while it's hot... ;-)

@DennisLfromGA

Corrected some of the logic when updating crouton and the chroots.
Cleaned up the whole thing ( the best I could ;) and added a few tweaks and more comments.

@DennisLfromGA
Copy link

Changed script to add a color output by default, color can be turned off with the '-w' option.
The original non-color script has been renamed to 'startcr.b+w' and is no longer ...

@DennisLfromGA

Added Version tracking and version history options. Also added detection & implemtation of CROUTON partition, plus added 'elementary' DE/target
