Amplify Engineering

Amplify (https://getamplify.org) helps grassroots groups that are resisting Trump's authoritarianism. It started at Indivisible SF, and is now in use by Indivisible groups across the country (and spreading quickly -- we have people helping groups on board and supporting them).

To try it out, use a mobile phone to open https://getamplify.org/install and then join Indivisible SF with the invite code 101-202-303.

The product is just a shadow of what it could be. There's currently only one full-time volunteer on the product/engineering front (Ted, Y Combinator S11, previously created a Facebook application that grew to 25 million people).

Current stack:

  • javascript
  • react (web-based team admin panel)
  • react native (iOS + android apps)
  • firebase, MySQL
  • node

Knowing javascript is a must; knowing React would help a lot, everything else you could learn on the fly! The ideal person could go from wireframes to a working product.

We're planning to keep the core software team pretty small, and write code that keeps everyone highly leveraged.

Questions (and answers)

Is this a nonprofit project?

Yep!

Why isn't it open source?

Don't want to also amplify fringe groups promoting violence, etc.

I might want to contribute! What do I do?

Just email: ted@getamplify.org
