Mod 1

Week 1

Describe one of your strengths

What is something you have learned to do well (list a skill)?

  • I can lead teams of people and disseminate information effectively.

What is something you know about (list some knowledge/expertise you have)?

  • I know how to break down information so that I can learn it more effectively and quickly.

What is something you have a natural ability to do well (list a talent)?

  • I am a quick learner.

How could you combine these to describe a specific strength?

  • I have the ability to learn quickly and take in information effectively and disseminate that information accross a team.

Read through your Top 4 results from Pairin

  1. Imaginative_inspirational
  2. Friend
  3. People Developer
  4. Lover of Humanity

In your own words, what do these top 4 qualities tell you about yourself?

  • These skills tell me that I enjoy working with people and developing them. It shows that I am hopeful for human nature, and I want the best for the people that I work with. It also tells me that I enjoy making connections and growing the relationships that I make.

Do they resonate with you? Why/why not?

  • These skills do resonate with me. As someone who recently managed a large team, I really enjoyed working with my team and helping those with the drive to move forward and take on roles with more responsibility.

How do they relate to the strength you wrote about in Prompt #1?

  • These skills help me to lead teams by making connections with those that I lead in a professional way, but also in a way that made my direct reports feel comfortable coming to me with ideas and issues that I can guide them through.

Challenges with strengths

What can make it challenging to recognize your strengths? How can you work through those challenges?

  • Self reflection can be difficult for many reasons, and I think that it can be challenging for anyone to recognize their own strengths. One thing that helps is looking to close friends, coworkers, bosses, and direct reports for feedback on what you are doing well and where you can improve. This helps to see past your own self biases to see a more clear and complete version of yourself.

Do you ever see yourself overusing certain strengths? In what circumstances would you want to use them less and amplify other strengths? How could you adjust your approach in those instances?

  • I could see myself overusing strengths, but if I have been I am not aware of it.

Strengths in action

Write 1-2 sentences describing how you like to work (i.e., Do you pre-plan? Do you talk through your ideas first? Do you work better with deadlines? How do you stay organized?)

  • I like to break any assignment down into smaller sections that I can complete in peices. A deadline definitely does help, but I can start to feel overwhelmed as a deadline approaches if I have not kept up with what I need to bby that point.

How could you describe these working preferences to your project teammates? Your mentor? Your instructors?

  • I could let them know that it is helpful for me to see what pieces I need to do by when with a project to ensure that I am able to complete it on time.

What would you need to be aware of when working with people who have different strengths from you?

  • I would need to be aware of what boundaries that they have and what they expect from me as a teammate. It would also be nice to know where their strengths lie so that we can divide our work according to our strengths.

How could your Pairin results help you better understand your everyday working preferences?

  • My Pairin results could help me to team up with people who have different top skills so that we are not overlapping in what responsibilities that we want to take on.

Continued growth

Is there any particular strength you’d like to sharpen while you’re at Turing? Any area you consider a weakness that you’d like to strengthen?

  • I would like to strengthen my time management and self discipline skills. I would like to get to a point where I do not feel behind, and can help out other students.

What are some steps you could take here?

  • I think that rewatching out lectures, going through my notes, and practicing with these concepts will help a lot to get to where I want to be.

How could you be aware of progress you’re making?

  • I can keep track of the feedback I am getting on the projects and assessments and see if the feedback is improving or satying the same, since the feedback so far is that I am a little behind.
