List of software you should use!

Utilities

  • Steam - A really popular online games distributor, with friends list and chat functionalities. Has thousands of games.
  • Discord - A very popular VOIP and chat program, a lot of communities use it, and it's free... unless you want a GIF avatar.
  • Google Chrome - A popular web browser. People can get into heated debates as to whether Firefox is better than Chrome or not. I listed chrome because I use it.
  • Thunderbird - Email client.
  • ShareX - One click screenshot and share tool with editor. People often say "get gyazo" but gyazo is crap and charges you money for most of it's features, ShareX doesn't.
  • Process Hacker 2 - A powerful alternative to Task Manager. Note: Valve's Anti-Cheat hates Process Hacker... Close Process Hacker before starting any VAC secured multiplayer games. You wont get banned, but you will get kicked. Why? Because Valve has their head up their ass.
  • SpaceSniffer - If your hard drives start getting full, this gives you a nice and easy way to find out where that space has gone to. Run as admin.
  • Speccy - View information about your computer. It helps to share this information when requesting help.
  • HWInfo - While I haven't personally used it, a lot of people recommend you use this software instead of Speccy. It's a bit more in-depth though, and better suited for monitoring.
  • MSI Afterburner - Graphics Card Overlocking utility.
  • 7zip - The best compression software around, that doesnt pester you to buy a license for it every time you start it like WinRAR.

Browser plugins

  • Adblock Plus - People will yell at me for suggesting this. I would yell back at them because two adblockers are better than one.
  • UBlock Origin - You know those vaccines you get in two parts? This is part two to the Intrusive Advertisements vaccine.
  • Youtube Enhancer - Youtube sucks. They keep updating the UI or doing something to it to make it annoying. This makes it less annoying.
  • The Great Suspender - Kills inactive tabs and replaces them with lightweight pages that allow you to go back to what you were doing, incase you are like me and use 50 million tabs.
  • Tampermonkey - You'll find userscripts that allow you to do cool things on some sites, and this tool will make it possible.
  • Reddit Enhancement Suite - Makes browsing reddit... just great. Inclused a post preview thing so you can say goodbye to edit: formatting, and much more.
  • Ghostery - Privacy plugin that stops trackers from tracking you. As a side effect, pages load faster because for some strange reason said pages don't have to wait for some overloaded server to track you.
  • Dark Night Mode - A tool by a fellow r/pcmasterrace member that turns blinding white themes pages into dark themed pages.
  • View Image - Google was forced to remove the view image button from google image search. This adds it back.

Bonus Utilities

  • If you have multiple monitors, check out DisplayFusion. Great for managing wallpapers and multiple monitors.
  • If you have various audio devices like me (eg: Stereo, headset, wireless mic, desk mic, etc), check out VoiceMeeter. Great for syncing audio between a headset and tv without having to cope with Windows' stupid "DEFAULT DEVICE LOL CANT BYPASS IT" crap... no seriously that feature is fucking stupid.
  • If the default start menu and/or searching your PC through Cortana makes you wish for a nuclear winter, check out ClassicShell. Replaces the start menu with one more similar to Windows 7, which was arguably the best Start Menu Microsoft has ever designed, except this time it comes in a style better suited to Windows 10. AND A SEARCH FEATURE THAT ACTUALLY WORKS.
  • Like animated backgrounds? Try out Wallpaper Engine.
  • Like to get custom widgets and shit like you see Some of these people doing, try Rainmeter.
  • Like listening to music? Spotify is your app of choice.
  • Got RGB keyboards, mice, etc? Aurora will help you keep them all managed in one place.

Tweak Windows to not be shit.

  • Windows 10 comes into your home like a puppy does after playing in the backyard on a rainy day: It drags mud and water in, and takes plenty of joy in spreading it from asshole to breakfast time. Do yourself a favor and use Windows Tweaker to undo some of that crap.
  • Windows 10 also comes with a default antivirus. When I say antivirus I mean court jester. Replace that shit immediately with another antivirus. If you are poor, AVG Free will do the trick. Otherwise, if you are willing to spend a bit of money, get Kaspersky Internet Security.
  • If you plan to do any sort of coding down the track or something like that, Install VSCode - The one thing microsoft has made that hasn't turned out to be completely shit (yet).

Now onto games.

All of these games can be downloaded from Steam.

These are just a handful of games I enjoy out of my library. Ultimately you should search around, watch lets plays and see what you might like. Avoid Zero Punctuation reviews until after you've played the games.
