Rails ajax comparison (fetch, Rails.ajax, axios, @rails/request.js, Turbo)

Rails ajax comparison (fetch, Rails.ajax, axios, @rails/request.js, Turbo)

I wrote this gist because I felt that the Rails documentation was lacking a description of ajax requests.

📌 Options for ajax request

There are various ways to send ajax requests in Rails.

  1. Browser default Fetch API
  2. Rails.ajax (No Official docs and request for docs)
  3. http client like axios
  4. @rails/request.js 👈 I'm using this one now !

Linking a custom domain from Google domains to Vercel app

Linking a custom domain to a deployed application is confusing and at times you don't get a route on how to link the domain with the website. 😫

In this article, I will be explaining how to link a Custom domain brought in Google Domains service to an application hosted on Vercel.

Perks of using vercel is that it allows adding domain without any verification unlike Heroku/Netlify, which means you don't have to add your billing details to add a domain to your application. Moreover, it is fast, efficient, and easy to use.😁

What is Vercel?

Vercel is a deployment and collaboration platform for frontend developers. Vercel enables developers to host websites and web services that deploy instantly and scale automatically – all without any configuration. Source - Official Docs

Rails API Social Login

Rails API-Only Social Login

This is another piece of code I've extrapolated from a Ruby on Rails project I'm currently working on. The code implmenets social login with a RoR API-based application, targeted at API clients.

The setup does not involve any browser-redirects or sessions as you would have to use working with Omniauth. Instead, what it does is takes an access_token generated on client-side SDKs, retireves user info from the access token and creates a new user and Identity in the database.

This setup works with native applications as described in the Google iOS Sign In Docs (see Authenticating with a backend server)

Rails Rspec model testing skeleton & cheat sheet using rspec-rails, shoulda-matchers, shoulda-callbacks, and factory_girl_rails. Pretty much a brain dump of examples of what you can (should?) test in a model. Pick & choose what you like, and please let me know if there are any errors or new/changed features out there. Reddit comment thread: http…
# This is a skeleton for testing models including examples of validations, callbacks,
# scopes, instance & class methods, associations, and more.
# Pick and choose what you want, as all models don't NEED to be tested at this depth.

# I'm always eager to hear new tips & suggestions as I'm still new to testing,
# so if you have any, please share!

Install older version of Formula in Homebrew
[From: http://hanxue-it.blogspot.com/2018/08/macos-homebrew-installing-older-version-of-software.html - just created a copy to keep it for long term]
Homebrew always wants to install the latest version of the Formula (software). This is by design, because every time there is an update to a formula, it wants to be tested against all the other formulas that it depends on. Mixing new and old versions of software is a recipe for incompatibility disaster.
But sometimes there are situations where you need an older version of software. In my specific case, Yarn was compiled against an older version of icu4c, and I want that older version instead of recompiling Yarn.
$ yarn install
