Ideas for new names for the Redskins

After far too long, the Washington Football Team might actually be on the brink of changing their name, mainly thanks to a series of hits on owner Dan Snyder's pocketbook. To be helpful, I put together a series of ideas for new names. Some of them aren't very practical, but pretty much anything is better than the current name.

There are actually bookies taking bets on potential names, some of which are awful. The Arlingtons? Why would anyone name their team after a nearby suburb? We are looking forward to playing the New York Hobokens, Boston Marbleheads and the Philadelphia Conshohockens. (Actually, those all sound pretty cool in an old-timey baseball kind of way.)

To start, you can think of things that unite all the residents of the DMV: the Commuters, Beltways, Single-Trackers, or the Broken Escalators. But team names are supposed t

The NCAA tournament, one of the most fun sports events of the year, has been canceled. I love March Madness and Selection Sunday and still wanted to participate in a bracket pool somehow, and also donate to charity. It's also something fun to do while we socially distance ourselves and all that.

So here's how it works: I'll put the last ESPN Bracketology into my College Hoops 2k8 game for the Xbox 360, then simulate the results.

To participate, send me $5 via Paypal or Venmo (awiseman at gmail) and I will donate it all to Meals on Wheels. (Or you can donate yourself, just let me know you did so.)

Then take the bracket linked below, duplicate the Copyable Bracket sheet (click the little triangle), add your name and make your picks. The colors are to help show which region is which. I posted an example on the second sheet.

The deadline to fill it out will be Tuesday, March 17 at noon ET. Then I'll start simulating the games and update you all with the results. Similar to the NCAAs it'll be half the games t

Daft Punk pasta sauce

Back in 2005, I decided to make the pasta sauce from the video for Daft Punk's "Revolution 909". It was pretty good. Here's the original blog post from 2005: so I got bored at work today and decided to post the recipe for pasta sauce in the Daft Punk video "Revolution 909", which I got watched at this site. I had to translate it from French, thanks to what I remember from middle school (which is not much), Google, and a couple random French cooking websites. So here it is.

Daft Punk pasta sauce

You need:

  • about 8 tomatoes
  • A whole onion
  • Some basil leaves
  • 2 or 3 small dried red peppers (not really sure what they are)
