What forces layout/reflow. The comprehensive list.

What forces layout / reflow

All of the below properties or methods, when requested/called in JavaScript, will trigger the browser to synchronously calculate the style and layout*. This is also called reflow or layout thrashing, and is common performance bottleneck.

Generally, all APIs that synchronously provide layout metrics will trigger forced reflow / layout. Read on for additional cases and details.

Element APIs

Getting box metrics
  • elem.offsetLeft, elem.offsetTop, elem.offsetWidth, elem.offsetHeight, elem.offsetParent

PostgreSQL command line cheatsheet

PSQL

Magic words:

psql -U postgres

Some interesting flags (to see all, use -h or --help depending on your psql version):

  • -E: will describe the underlaying queries of the \ commands (cool for learning!)
  • -l: psql will list all databases and then exit (useful if the user you connect with doesn't has a default database, like at AWS RDS)

* At least two points are needed to interpolate something.
* @class Lagrange polynomial interpolation.
* The computed interpolation polynomial will be reffered to as L(x).
* @example
* var l = new Lagrange(0, 0, 1, 1);
* var index = l.addPoint(0.5, 0.8);
* console.log(l.valueOf(0.1));
*
* l.changePoint(index, 0.5, 0.1);

Super simple hack to automatically switch to a specific Node version on CD (using NVM and ZSH)
# Detects if a .nvmrc file exists, and switches
# to the specified version if it does.
# The contents of the .nvmrc file should simply be the node
# version to use, like "v0.8.11"
# Put this in your .zshrc file or somewhere else that is loaded automatically
function chpwd() {
emulate -L zsh
if [[ -f .nvmrc ]] then
nvm use `cat .nvmrc`
