History

  • Extension created by Kaspar, then Robert Lemke, Steffen Kamper, Dmitry Dulepov.
  • Later managed by Tolleiv Nietsch.
  • Applause for a dying open source project during TYPO3 Camp Stuttgart 2013 made me think.
  • Took over the development for 6.2 together with Wouter Wolters.

Why?

  • I am feelancer and code for a living.
  • The community is much bigger than the usual guys showing up at TYPO3 camps and adopt new technologies quickly.
  • TYPO3 was always about having an upgrade path.
  • Especially big sites do not have the money to do a relaunch in time, but want to be able to upgrade their TYPO3 version.
  • Sites with a lot of editors (universities e.g.) need to invest in new trainings for new technologies.
  • Clients blame the product if it's a dead end and might rather switch the whole CMS.

What is the status of the project?

  • I have been working on the code base for about a months.
  • Mostly turned everything upside down.
  • A lot of code has been rewritten/refactored. Interested in details?
  • Project to be released (internally) around end of 2016.
  • Official release months later.
  • Bugfixing phase and development for TYPO3 8.7 on PHP7 only.
