World AeroPress Competition recipes are typically concentrate-then-dilute. This leads to higher losses of brewed coffee in the discarded puck. The coffee is generally coarser and brewed at lower temperatures to produce high acidity, but it also brews underextracted. Higher quantities of coffee are used (30+ grams) to compensate. This financially unreasonable for many people.

The "golden ratio" of water-to-coffee for drip is around 16:1 to 19:1, but immersion brewing, like the AeroPress, requires more coffee, giving ratios of 12:1 to 14:1.

Personally, I have brewed 250g/15g (16.7:1) with medium-find grind size in my Aeropress, and like the taste. However, 200g/15g (13.3:1) with a medium grind improves the flavor without overextraction, at the cost of less liquid to actually drink, unless I'm willing to expend more coffee.

Regardless, here are the WAC Results. Note, 2020 was cancelled due to COVID-19, and 2008 doesn't report a 2nd or 3rd place winner. Some details are missing in each recipe, so "N/A" for "not available" is given.
