Project Florida: Mobile Engineer

Summary for the Really Impatient

Come build an iOS app, from scratch, that makes everyone healthier. It will have an amazing user experience, push built-in sensors to the limit, and have an intimate relationship with a custom-built wearable device. We're located in Manhattan and very well funded.

About Project Florida

We're an early stage hardware and software startup in Manhattan. Our grand vision is to bring preventative healthcare to the masses. The first step will be to build a wearable device that will make you and everyone else better understand, and improve, their general health and wellbeing.

We have an audacious vision and continue to put together an amazing team (< 10 now), who want to work on something with meaning and real impact for a lot of people. Now we are beginning to build. This means that by joining now you will have a significant impact on how we construct both the user experience and the architecture of the software, and the very fabric of the company.

We are not your typical startup as we are very very well--funded, privately. We have a beautiful office on 25th and 7th, a generous vacation policy and an amazing healthcare plan.

Who Are We Looking For

The person we are looking for will:

  • thrive in an environment where there are more questions than answers
  • thrive in a mostly flat organization with cross-functional teams
  • be a self-starter and fully self-organizing
  • own a challenge and take it from it's vaguely defined start to it's solid finished state
  • will take his/her work all the way to production (devops spirit)
  • have 5+ of solid experience, preferably in a startup

How To Apply

Send us:

  • a few thoughtful lines about why you
    • think this position would be a great fit for you
    • want to work in this industry
  • your updated resume or LinkedIn profile
  • a link to your Github profile and/or other of your software creations / contributions
  • a link to Twitter/other relevant social profiles

The Job

Our mobile app will be the main interface for the user. It will have to keep the user engaged for years, and will have to deliver a vastly better user experience than what is on the market right now. It will also be the bridge between our wearable device and the central datastore, and serve as a wearable sensor device itself by taking advantage of built-in sensors, GPS, etc.

If you love building iOS apps (from scratch) that needs to deliver novel and engaging user experiences and/or love building systems for efficient sensor handling and data transfer, then we have challenges for you right here! :)

List of responsibilities for the mobile team

  • work with experience team to experiment with and implement user interface
  • experiment with sensors and implement sensor handling
  • experiment with other non-sensor data sources
  • implement (sensor) data transfer to/from backend
  • implement event handling system
  • architect the overall app structure
  • work with backend team to define mobile/backend APIs
  • set up environment for testing app
