DDD/CQRS/ES/Architecture videos

If you have two days to learn the very basics of modelling, Domain-Driven Design, CQRS and Event Sourcing, here's what you should do:

In the evenings read the [Domain-Driven Design Quickly Minibook]{http://www.infoq.com/minibooks/domain-driven-design-quickly}. During the day watch following great videos (in this order):

  1. Eric Evans' [What I've learned about DDD since the book]{http://www.infoq.com/presentations/ddd-eric-evans}
  2. Eric Evans' [Strategic Design - Responsibility Traps]{http://www.infoq.com/presentations/design-strategic-eric-evans}
  3. Udi Dahan's [Avoid a Failed SOA: Business & Autonomous Components to the Rescue]{http://www.infoq.com/presentations/SOA-Business-Autonomous-Components}
  4. Udi Dahan's [Command-Query Responsibility Segregation]{http://www.infoq.com/presentations/Command-Query-Responsibility-Segregation}
  5. Greg Young's [Unshackle Your Domain]{http://www.infoq.com/presentations/greg-young-unshackle-qcon08}
  6. Eric Evans' [Acknowledging CAP at the Root -- in the Domain Model]{ht

GitHub Standard Fork & Pull Request Workflow

Whether you're trying to give back to the open source community or collaborating on your own projects, knowing how to properly fork and generate pull requests is essential. Unfortunately, it's quite easy to make mistakes or not know what you should do when you're initially learning the process. I know that I certainly had considerable initial trouble with it, and I found a lot of the information on GitHub and around the internet to be rather piecemeal and incomplete - part of the process described here, another there, common hangups in a different place, and so on.

In an attempt to coallate this information for myself and others, this short tutorial is what I've found to be fairly standard procedure for creating a fork, doing your work, issuing a pull request, and merging that pull request back into the original project.

Creating a Fork

Just head over to the GitHub page and click the "Fork" button. It's just that simple. Once you've done that, you can use your favorite git client to clone your repo or j

Rough Notes about CQRS and ES

Rough Notes about CQRS and ES

Once upon a time…

I once took notes (almost sentence by sentence with not much editing) about the architectural design concepts - Command and Query Responsibility Segregation (CQRS) and Event Sourcing (ES) - from a presentation of Greg Young and published it as a gist (with the times when a given sentence was heard).

I then found other summaries of the talk and the gist has since been growing up. See the revisions to know the changes and where they came from (aka the sources).

It seems inevitable to throw Domain Driven Design (DDD) in to the mix.

Simple Python Flask app on Cloud Foundry

This is a (very) simple Flask application that shows how the built-in Python buildpack detection on Cloud Foundry works.

To push to Cloud Foundry, log in and then use
