Summary of 'Clean code' by Robert C. Martin

Code is clean if it can be understood easily – by everyone on the team. Clean code can be read and enhanced by a developer other than its original author. With understandability comes readability, changeability, extensibility and maintainability.

General rules

  1. Follow standard conventions.
  2. Keep it simple stupid. Simpler is always better. Reduce complexity as much as possible.
  3. Boy scout rule. Leave the campground cleaner than you found it.
  4. Always find root cause. Always look for the root cause of a problem.

UDID, identifierForVendor and advertisingIdentifier FAQ

What's the difference between UUID, GUID and UDID?

  • UUID (Universally Unique Identifier): A sequence of 128 bits that can guarantee uniqueness across space and time, defined by [RFC 4122][rfc4122].

  • GUID (Globally Unique Identifier): Microsoft's implementation of the UUID specification; often used interchangeably with UUID.

  • UDID _(Unique Device Identifier)): A sequence of 40 hexadecimal characters that uniquely identify an iOS device (the device's Social Security Number, if you will). This value can be retrieved through iTunes, or found using UIDevice -uniqueIdentifier. Derived from hardware details like MAC address.

Is UDID deprecated?

Learn Lua quickly with this short yet comprehensive and friendly script. It's written as both an introduction and a quick reference. It's also a valid Lua script so you can verify that the code does what it says, and learn more by modifying and running this script in your Lua interpreter.

Create dot files/directories (ie .file) on Windows

#How to create a .file or .folder on Windows

There are several ways

1. Rename

  • Create file.txt
  • Rename to .file., the last dot will be dropped, you'll have .file

Works the same with a file or a directory.

You should develop in a Virtual Machine

#You should do all your LAMP development in a Virtual Machine

##Here's Why:

Many of us develop on Macintoshes. There are many reasons for this, but one of them is that it's based on a Unix platform of some sort. This allows us to run common server software such as Apache, Ruby, Python and Nodejs on our Macs.

Our computers become powerful develoment machines similar to the servers our apps will eventually live on.

Sometime we start our computer only to find Apache won't start, or MySQL can't create a PID file, or we've updated to Mountain Lion and Apache needs to be reconfigured. Death!
