Sebastian's Margarita Recipe
This is my award-winning recipe for margaritas. They've led to more than one good party.
The recipe is "paella-style", meaning it's not exact and a lot of eyeballing is required.
I recommend tasting throughout, ideally with a sober partner in crime.
Tools you'll need:
- lemon and lime squeezers OR powerful hands (probably best to get the squeezers, they're no more than $20)
- pitcher(s) - this recipe easily makes 2 full pitchers
- margarita glasses (or plain old cups)
Ingredients:
- N lemons
- N x 2 limes
- 1 bottle agave nectar (I like raw and organic, can get it at Whole Foods or similar store)
- 1 bottle good tequila (Don Julio Silver is a favorite choice, as is Leyenda de Milagro)
- 1 bottle Grand Marnier (You can use Cointreau if you're on a budget squeeze)
Steps:
- In a very large bowl, squeeze all lemons and limes.
- Add at least 3/4 bottle of tequila
- add agave nectar until you cannot taste the alcohol
- add Grand Marnier until the flavor comes through (the mix should be dark but lemon colored)
- serve and drink!
Notes:
- the key is squeezing all the lemons and limes by hand. You'll get numb to the smell about 3-4
lemons in but people will notice. It's a lot of work but creates an excellent margarita.
- the key in the design of the recipe is the agave nectar. Combined with fresh-squeezed lemons and
limes, it can convince pretty much anyone that the mix is virgin. Little do they know how much
actual tequila you've added.
- if you want to go all out and impress your friends, get a bottle of Grand Mayan tequila. This
stuff is expensive but when you drink it, you will understand why. It's easily some of the best
tequila out there. It has a pretty hefty price tag, though.
