Write a draft of your introduction message to your mentor!

Be sure to include:

  • Your name and pronouns
  • Your program and cohort
  • What you did before coming to Turing
  • Anything else you think is relevant for your mentor to know!

Add your draft message below ⬇️

  • My name is Carissa (she/her) and I will be in the 2205 Front End program. I have been the Youth Team Manager for the youth climbing team program at Movement Golden Climbing & Fitness for the past five years. Not only was I managing a program with 12 coaches and 86 athletes (ages from 7 to 17!) but a huge part of my job was maintaining the relationships with the athletes and parents and the culture that encompassed the program as a whole. The main vision of the program was to support athlete's goals (climbing and other things in life) and help them grow as athletes and people. Coaching kids climbing has taught me so many things about myself - how to reach different learning styles, what my learning style is, how to communicate efficiently, how to be a mentor, and grow / maintain positive relationships.

  • Additionally, I have been a freelance photographer for the past 12 years (my sessions consist of weddings, portraits, lifestyle and landscapes) Photography is something that I have always been passionate about - being able to capture what I think is beautiful and interesting and sharing it with the world is so enjoyable for me. I also assisted with wedding videography and created wedding films from footage. I feel I am a fast learner and enjoy having the space to be creative while problem solving.
