Install Any PHP on Arch / Manjaro

Through the AUR it is possible to install older and newer PHP versions, simultaneously on the same system. I often had trouble installing using pacman and pamac so here's what I did:

mkdir -p $HOME/bin
mkdir ~/src
cd ~/src
git clone https://aur.archlinux.org/php81.git
cd php81

Prevent creation of vmmem files in VMware (Windows)

Issue

VMWare creates .vmem files to back the guest RAM. On the host this causes disk thrashing especially during powering on and off the guest.

Solution

Add the following lines to the .vmx file to prevent creation of .vmem files. This will reduce disk IO and VM performance will improve especially on non-SSD disks.

Install PHP 7 Xdebug in Arch Linux

"Normally", these instructions should be also valid (in similar way) for other Linux distros.

1.- Install Xdebug using pacman:

sudo pacman -Sy xdebug
