Weaving a budget with org-mode & ledger

ledger comes with a built in budget system, but I wanted to get an “envelope”, or “YNAB” style budget working. While this was easy to do in theory, in practice it proved more difficult. The theory is pretty simple; enevelope budgeting merely requires you to create some new accounts to keep track of each “envelope” of money. But in practice, it requires a huge amount of duplicate data-entry, because even when using ledger’s automatic transactions, because each month’s budget is mostly the same but not necessarily exactly the same.The following

#Adding an existing project to GitHub using the command line

Simple steps to add existing project to Github.

1. Create a new repository on GitHub.

In Terminal, change the current working directory to your local project.

##2. Initialize the local directory as a Git repository.

git init

It's not immediately obvious how to pull down the code for a PR and test it locally. But it's pretty easy. (This assumes you have a remote for the main repo named upstream.)

Getting the PR code

1. Make note of the PR number. For example, Rod's latest is PR #37: Psiphon-Labs/psiphon-tunnel-core#37

2. Fetch the PR's pseudo-branch (or bookmark or rev pointer whatever the word is), and give it a local branch name. Here we'll name it pr37:

$ git fetch upstream pull/37/head:pr37

OpenGL Development on OS X

While it's possible to download packages and install them manually, it's such a hassle. Fortunately for us, OS X has an unofficial package manager called http://brew.sh Let's install it. Open you Terminal and paste the following code:

Great. Homebrew will automatically install packages to /usr/local. Conveniently, that directory is already in your include and link paths.
