What is your greatest strength and how do you know?

My greatest strength is openness and understanding. With this characteristic I am able to be receptive to and understanding of others. This is good because it makes working with others easier, as my approach is more egalitarian. This also makes me more capable of learning new things and improving upon myself.

How do you work best?

I work best when there is equality among peers. I do not do well in competitive environments. I thrive when I can support and be supported by others. I do best when communication is open and friendly.

What is your greatest area of improvement?

My greatest area of self improvement is self confidence. Most of my life I have lived under a mindset of being less than, having grown up with disability and not being allowed indepence until my thirties. I've recently achieved many milestones that have shown me that I am capable of independence and success. I have so much more room for improvement as far as self confidence is concernded.

How do you hope to maximize your strengths for your new career in software development?

I plant to build upon my existing strengths why strengthening some of my weaknesses. To maximize my strengths I can work on communicating with my teachers and peers, as I tend to abstain from too much interaction. By being more interactive with my peers my strengths will shine. I also hope that by being more communicative I will turn my weak self-confidence into a strength.

How might knowing about your strengths and working preferences benefit you as a software developer?

I think it will aid in me finding the right company to work with. As my teachers, peers, and network connections get to know me finding a good fit will become easier. Different companies have differing ways of operation, so knowing my strength and working preferences will be useuful in finding my fit in the industry.

What efforts do you make to manage your learning process? Are these efforts successful? What challenges have inhibited your ability to manage your learning process effectively?

I recently bought colored pens and notebooks for taking notes in the different mods, and I hope to use them effectively. I often don't do well at notetaking as I often get lost in listening and forget to write anything down. This might be attributable to my adhd. I must work on being more diligent in my notetaking and maintaining a steady flow of work.

How do Sierra's and Coate's material relate to your current process for learning?

The both Sierra and Coate emphasized the relevance of repetition in learning something new. To learn coding I must continue to practice daily to catch on to everything that is being taught to me. I know that if I don't continue to study and practice coding that I will not have learned much of anything at all, I will have lost what I was taught. If I am going to succeed I am going to have to require myself to practice reread and study as much as I possibly can.

What role does your emotional state of mind play in your learning? How do your successes and failures at learning affect your emotional state?

If my emotional state is poor I will likely fail to learn especially if I allow myself to believe that I cannot learn coding. By keeping my emotions balanced and positive, I can challenge myself to believe that I can succeed. Failures may be discouraging and cause trouble for my emotional state, but knowing that most programmers struggled learning coding initially is fuel to my fire of believing I can also overcome failures and become an excellent programmer. Successes in learning of course motivate the learner to continue on and learn more. One must fail to succeed.

How will you prepare yourself to be at your best with your learning process while at Turing?

I will ensure that when I do work that I break it up into smaller parts, making the tasks less intimidating for me. I will make sure not to look at everything that needs to be done, at once. I will make lists of smaller parts of my assignments to complete piece by piece. By breaking everything up I am less likely to procrastinate, and more likely to succeed.
