Some civic hack app ideas that I've been mulling around.
In order to bring about continued awareness of child obesity and to bring school districts greater accountability about what they're doing to combat the epidemic, a map of each school district color coded by avg-BMI.
Fat-shaming school districts, basically.
Every time one of your congressional representatives votes (or doesn't) you get a push notification to vote yay|nay|abstain
on the same issue. After voting, your vote is compared to your local representative. Over time it would track accountability of representatives to their constituents: "Congressperson X voted against the popular opinion of their district 79% of the time."
Hopefully it could help expose influence of lobbying and big business. It could also inform how you vote in the next election.
A day or two before polls open, users get a push notification with a "sample ballot" and summary of all the issues and offices they would be voting on. Brief descriptions of users and candidates (with party alignments) would be available. Users can vote straight on party lines or work their way through the ballot "voting" in-app for their own reference on voting day.
Could also be a great way to get "pre-exit polls" and anonymous data on popular opinion by voting district.
