Who Are We - Steven (5 seconds)

  • hello Y Combinator! I'm Steven (And I'm Håkan)
  • we met in Bangalore in 2007

Roles - Steven (15 seconds)

  • over past 5 - 10 years:
    • we've been building immutable databases and running companies, respectively
    • so we'll be CTO and CEO, respectively
  • also over past 5 years:
    • both returned to our home countries of Sweden and Canada
    • ...and started working on databases together

What is Endatabas? - Håkan (20 seconds)

  • in early 2023, we decided to bootstrap Endatabas (or Endb for short)
    • "Endatabas" is literally "a database" in Swedish
    • Endb makes UX and ops very simple - the architecture does the heavy lifting
    • the best way to understand Endb is to experience it, so...
  • after 8 months, we've produced a usable alpha -- we want you to try it!

Why Endb? - Håkan (20 seconds)

  • "Why Endb? Why now?" it's the perfect time!
    • the 1970s dream of a database that can record anything, forever, can (finally) be realized
    • SQL is mature
    • thanks to the web, documents are second-nature
    • disk is infinite / SvC is commodity
    • light & adaptive indexing is possible
  • (also, after 5 years of work, we have a design we're really happy with)

Steven (4 seconds)

  • we want to build endb because we feel it's inevitable

Removed from "Why Endb?"

Optionally:

  • after 5 years of work, I'm excited about:
    1. lean
    2. document + sql - design we're happy with
  • building a db is no one's first choice
    • but cobbling existing solutions are unsatisfying
    • timing is right to revisit great ideas from the 1970s and 1980s
