- Web content management solution
- Acquisition strategy for standardized solution, consolidated from 330 (?)
- Web Renewal initiative
- Reduced federal govt web presence (down to 6 sites!)
- Simplify publishing process
- Standardize tech platform (Mark's team)
- Fed govt putting out RFP for solution, figuring out how to include an OSS solution
For now ITSB telling departments:
- either continue using Autonomy Teamsite (legacy, not enterprise-level)
- for new projects use Drupal
- easier to get off the ground At federal level, needs answers to following concenrs:
- governance (formal change requests, timely resolution of problems, etc)
- support (big vendors are perceived better for this)
Q&A
- Q(RobinG): what's the timeline for an RFI?
- A: mid-december, will highlight 8-10 questions about OSS: TCO, support for Web Analytics, what operationa (web-hosting) model is best for Govt web presence
- Q(RobinG): Will the RFP come down to 1 product?
- A: Undecided. Talked about external (citizen) presence vs internal presence (intranet). Interim guidelines talk about internal and external. Says that he thinks it might be 1 external solution, but perhaps several solutions for internal.
- Q(AndrewS): Other timelines?
- A: Nov-Feb is the exploration phase. RFP posted in March, awarded in Jun/July (?).
- Q(RobinG): What about departments/ministries who are waiting on decision before doing more web work?
- A: Interim guidance is public (though will be updated shortly). They can email me directly or generic CIB mailbox.
- Q(StevenOTT): When go live with system? 2015? 2020?
- A: Open question. Best case scenario is 2 years.
- Q(AndrewS): Are we open to SaaS solution?
- A: Yes, but federal government has decided that no foreign-owned organizations can manage fed gov projects, which will limit cloud providers.
- Q(AndrewS): Will this be a standard RFP with boilerplate? Won't that bias for a big vendor?
- A: Don't have an answer. We're coming here to address it. We're adding terms of usability (TBD: collaboration, community-involvement,etc).
- Q(RobinG): Open standards
- Q(Alex): What other solutions might come up?
- A: We only looked at Drupal and interwoven so far.
- A(WillH): only Interwoven/Sharepoint/Drupal in Govt, as far as I know
- Q(SteveOTT): what about adobe product? (no response) (referencing https://twitter.com/Dries/status/266899913072320513)
- A: I dont know what other open source communities (response: Wordpress?)
- Q(WillH): will there be a demo component in the RFP?
- A: Yes.
- Q(PeterL): RFP for vendor or product?
- A: Solution; doesn't specify format. (Eg 2 pieces of software, and 1 service contract)
- Q(PeterL): Who will win?
- A: Look at Linux (redhat). I'm expecting that there's a similar player for Drupal. (WillH: Acquia will). (Discussion ensues about joint solution). WillH: Acquia is the biggest Drupal company. Silver partners might offload the work. "Mark: Yeah".
- Q(AndrewS): National master standing offer?
- A: New enterprise model might suggest it for perhaps for pre-qualified support contract, which will help smaller firms.
- Q(PeterL): Acquia won't bid. Will+AndrewS: We've already talked to Acquia;

- A: use PO files, generated via POTX module Q: Panopoly is incompatible with certain block-based modules.
- A: blocks are dead. Widgets are the way to go for so many reasons. We need to document this better.
