RX 6700 XT Hashcat Benchmarks

AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT (XFX QICK 319) Hashcat Benchmarks

Software: Hashcat v6.1.1-275-g057de100d+, Archlinux, Linux 5.11.16

Accelerator: 1 x AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT, XFX Speedster QICK 319

Notes

  1. Uses a messy chroot containing hashcat, amdpro bits and who knows what else that I am trying to narrow down to the sufficient conditions
  • Outside the chroot, in the archlinux install there is nothing special- no dkms builds of drivers just amdgpu from the kernel package, no opencl-amd, no special firmwares
  • GP has gots to get his hashcat on pronto ;)
  1. Things I tried which did not get OpenCL working:
  • Ubuntu 20.04
    • 21.10 release with combinations of amdgpu-install, amdgpu-pro-install, --opencl=rocr,legacy or both, --headless and not, --no-dkms and dkms
    • Kernels 5.4.0-52, 5.8.0-something from kernel-mainline builds
  • Arch
    • opencl-amd {20.50,21.10}
    • mesa 21+ from git
    • rocm builds in aur - though this thread looks promising ROCm/aomp#187
  • Fedora 33 with rocm and what I could make of this: https://gist.github.com/epixoip/99085955a1145ff61ec83512a50421a7#notes
    • it seems like ROCm is not relevant to 5000 and 6000 series navi cards?
    • rocminfo and the rocm-smi were cool though and worked fine
  1. Look, I was just happy to get numbers. HMU to untangle this if you have bigger linux gennies

How did you make this work? I'm trying to make hashcat use my rx 6700 xt but it complains about a missing /usr/lib/clc/gfx1030-amdgcn-mesa-mesa3d.bc?

@xandercrews I was trying parrot os, installed amdgpu, rocm and mesa-icd, but I can't figure it out. I'm pondering nuking the system and just installing ubuntu proper, but that still likely wouldn't give me that missing file. I tried googling it but nothing comes up. At least nothing that I understand.

@FalcoGer not really sure what that one is- i run archlinux and install a version of amdgpu pro they package up by ripping apart the ubuntu version as described here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/AMDGPU_PRO

Just nuked parrotos, it's been a pain all around. Like apt-file doesn't run and installing amdgpu was a real pain and similar stuff. Now installed ubuntu. I'll see if I can make hashcat use my gpu from there.

Update:

I nuked parrotos and installed ubuntu proper (22.04 jammy). I then installed amdgpu, amdgpu-pro and rocm. However it still doesn't like me. It can't find the device?

Then reboot. But after that I get this.

Installing mesa-opencl-icd again results in "unstable driver" and when using --force it throws the good old fatal error: cannot open file '/usr/lib/clc/gfx1031-amdgcn-mesa-mesa3d.bc': No such file or directory.

What needs to be done?

I made it work. I added the user to the video and render group and rebooted and then removed the hip packages.
