Technical Cohort Week 3

Daily goals:

  • Order the C books you want to read.
  • Start a development blog.
  • Read through the Linux Kernel Newbies site. Pick a book on kernel programming.

Weekly goals:

  • Read at least 1 book, start writing throwaway code.
  • Pick a tool, set up a project and test framework.
  • Dip into the LKML every day.

Observations:

This week started OK, but preparing an unrelated meetup talk ate up most of my time during the week. My plan to spend weekends binging to catch up isn't really working out: this needs focused attention every day.

This week:

  • Focus on building habits, not goals.
  • Schedule time you want to protect.
  • Put this work in the "8th Light" category, alongside sales/NY office stuff. It's just as important!

Daily habit:

  • Spend the first hour of the day, before client work really starts, on your weekly/daily goals. Schedule the time and build a habit.
