Pseudo-elegant way to flush rewrite rules after creating a custom post type.
<?php
/**
* Example for writing a WP plugin that adds a custom post type and flushes
* rewrite rules only once on initialization.
*/
/**
* On activation, we'll set an option called 'my_plugin_name_flush' to true,
* so our plugin knows, on initialization, to flush the rewrite rules.

OEmbed Liquid Tag for Jekyll

OEmbed Liquid Tag for Jekyll

This is a simple liquid tag that helps to easily embed images, videos or slides from OEmbed enabled providers. It uses Magnus Holm's great oembed gem which connects to the OEmbed endpoint of the link's provider and retrieves the HTML code to embed the content properly (i.e. an in-place YouTube player, Image tag for Flickr, in-place slideshare viewer etc.). By default it supports the following OEmbed providers (but can fallback to Embed.ly or OoEmbed for other providers):

  • Youtube
  • Flickr
  • Viddler
  • Qik
  • Revision3
  • Hulu
  • Vimeo

Installing PHPUnit with MAMP PRO on OSX
1) Open up the terminal
2) Don't use version of PEAR that came with OS-X, use the one that came with MAMP (/Applications/MAMP/bin/php/php5.3.6/bin/pear)
3) Upgrade PEAR:
/Applications/MAMP/bin/php/php5.3.6/bin/pear channel-update pear.php.net
/Applications/MAMP/bin/php/php5.3.6/bin/pear channel-update upgrade pear
If you receive the following error: `Notice: unserialize(): Error at offset 276 of 1133 bytes in Config.php on line 1050`,
delete the PEAR config file found here: /Applications/MAMP/bin/php/php5.3.6/conf/pear.conf
4) Register the channels:

You're Missing the Point of Promises

This article has been given a more permanent home on my blog. Also, since it was first written, the development of the Promises/A+ specification has made the original emphasis on Promises/A seem somewhat outdated.

You're Missing the Point of Promises

Promises are a software abstraction that makes working with asynchronous operations much more pleasant. In the most basic definition, your code will move from continuation-passing style:

getTweetsFor("domenic", function (err, results) {
 // the rest of your code goes here.
