LDCS24223S refrigerator review

I bought this fridge in July 2017 from Costco, which extends the warranties on appliances from one year to two years.

Pros:

Compressor mostly whirs at a low pitch; a ringing sound is audible if you get near and the room is quiet, but it's much quieter than typical fridge compressors. Probably the killer feature.

No loud high-pitched sound, which is sometimes mentioned in LG fridge reviews, but not present here.

It reached the target temperature in both the fridge and freezer compartments within 6 hours.

The plastic smell eventually dissipated.

The design of the shelves is good and the layout can be modified somewhat.

Still alive 13 months later (2018-08-26).

The price (paid just over 1K USD).

Cons:

LED lighting inside is way, way too blue. I can't measure the exact color temperature, but it's probably around 10000K. WTF, LG?

No side door or French door to press your thumb against when opening the fridge door, so you often either have to yank hard, use two hands, or twist your fingers by the door seal for additional leverage.

As shipped, the shelves inside had numerous plastic shavings and oil stains that took two hours to clean off (remember to also check under the handles that you stick your fingers in)

Construction quality seems sloppy in some areas (improperly installed screw at the bottom; uneven vent at the top of the fridge compartment).

Stainless steel front is very easily scratched (in my case, with a paper towel) and retains fingerprints. Use microfiber and don't brush against the grain.

Stainless steel front does not hold any magnets (the sides do, though)

Not tested:

Ice maker

Other notes:

Target temperature of 34F in the fridge compartment results in an actual temperature of 37F. Not a big deal.

This review will unfortunately not be very useful soon because LG releases updated models frequently, but it might still give you some idea of how LG does refrigerators.
