This document describes the Nakamoto Workging Group for the Stacks Blockchain.

Goals

This WG is focused on implementing the Nakamoto v1 system design. In doing so, the Stacks blockchain will be upgraded to support:

  • Five-second confirmation times
  • Bitcoin finality
  • Linearized transaction history (no forks)
  • Mitigated Bitcoin miner MEV

Our EOY goal is to get a public testnet up and running on the Bitcoin testnet. Milestones on the way to this goal are described in the linked design document above.

You can track our progress on the Stacks blockchain issue tracker, filtering by the nakamoto tag. Issues are assigned once someone begins working on them.

Meetings

Our meetings are every other Tuesday at 11am EST via a Zoom call. If you would like to participate, we ask that you please complete this questionaire before being admitted. AI-generated meeting notes are posted to the Stacks forum.

This section is updated biweekly to summarize the past two weeks' progress.
