Pitch

I want to build an app that helps schools and families talk across language barriers about how to help students.

Problem

There is a growing English Language Learner population in America's public school system. Many of these families do not consistently maintain email accounts, but almost all of them use SMS. Educators need to be able to quickly communicate logistics and feedback to their students and families in multiple languages, but voice calling, individual text messaging are time consuming (especially if they need to be translated) and many families are just not accessible via email.

Solution

I propose an SMS texting platform that connects a roster of students with home language attributes and a texting service all to make it easier for teachers to get important information about field trips, grades, progress, etc to the families they serve. Teachers select a class, type a message, and then the app will send a text message to each family in their home language.

Target Audience

The audience for this app would be a teacher who wants to go above in beyond in the supports they provide for all of their students and the connections they are able to form with the communities their schools serve.

Integrations (Back End Only)

  • Which APIs will you use?
  • Google Classroom API - stores class rosters for many teachers. A teacher could import an existing class into the app from their Google Classroom.
  • Google Translate
  • Twilio
  • Which OAuth integration are you planning to use?
  • Google OAuth
