Internal Announcement

We are looking for volunteers to help build our engineering brand in the community and show off just how great it is to work at Ibotta. On six days in 2020 we will be hosting students from the Turing School of Software design, a code school whose mission is to “unlock human potential by training a diverse and inclusive student body to succeed in high-fulfillment technical careers.” We have already hosted two years worth of successful Turing School Shadow Days (some of the Turing students are now valuable contributors to our team) and we are looking to make this year's program the best one yet. This is also a chance to help students from diverse backgrounds interested in the software development field understand what this work is like at the professional level.

We would also love you to volunteer to share what we do with students from the Turing school by completing this form:

If you are a developer or engineering manager or leader interested in learning more about this program, join the #turing_shadow_day slack channel.

Turing Welcome Slack Message

Thanks Robyn.

Hello friends! Ibotta is excited to host you for Turing Shadow Day. Please reply to this message with your email address so I can get you into our guest system.

When you all arrive at 1801 California (https://goo.gl/maps/8rT56CoUsMtMnHkF6) @ me in Turing Slack and I will come down and escort you to the office. We’ll have a brief welcome and overview of the day, followed by about 2 hours of pairing with an Ibotta engineer. We’ll end the day with two thirty minute Q&A sessions first with an Engineering Manager and then with one of our HR technical recruiters. It should be a fun, busy, and informative day!

Let me know if you have any questions. I’m looking forward to meeting you all!

Turing Shadow Day: HR Q&A Agenda

Turing is a code school located a few blocks from Ibotta. We currently have several Turing alumni on the engineering team at Ibotta and many more code school and bootcamp grads on staff.

Our Turing guests will likely come from a variety of backgrounds, but will all be looking to get into highly fulfilling technical roles upon completion of the program. They will greatly benefit from any experience and wisdom you can share from your time in the technology world.

Suggested talking points:

  • Who are you and what was your path into technology?
  • How long have you been w/ Ibotta?
  • What are you most proud of accomplishing at Ibotta?
  • What makes Ibotta a great place to work?
  • What makes a good individual contributor?
  • What skills and knowledge do you value most in engineers you recruit?
  • Where do you think code school grads shine? Where do they typically struggle?
