It had been 3 days, and Sharol was still playing in the fields where the houses were set to be built. The rain poured but Palome and Dillie had had enough. They dropped the logs and stones they were carrying and walked back to the cart, now sitting in a shallow puddle of mud and footprints. The light of a fire glowed nearby, and they walked towards the smoke, their stomachs retching and growling. Simer and Hele were crounched by the fire, watching Earnestia roast the potatoes. There were still at least a hundred potatoes left in the cart, but slowly and surely, the families that had completed their houses had sequestered their allotments, leaving little for the Conniel tribe. Where they had assisted the others, few felt inclined to help them.
Their houses completed, they set about the same idling that they were used to. Few seemed worried about the coming winter.
