Most active GitHub users (by contributions). https://paulmillr.com

Most active GitHub users (git.io/top)

The list would not be updated for now. Don't write comments.

The count of contributions (summary of Pull Requests, opened issues and commits) to public repos at GitHub.com from Wed, 21 Sep 2022 till Thu, 21 Sep 2023.

Because of GitHub search limitations, only 1000 first users according to amount of followers are included. If you are not in the list you don't have enough followers. See raw data and source code. Algorithm in pseudocode:

Checkout github pull requests locally

Locate the section for your github remote in the .git/config file. It looks like this:

[remote "origin"]
	fetch = +refs/heads/*:refs/remotes/origin/*
	url = git@github.com:joyent/node.git

Now add the line fetch = +refs/pull/*/head:refs/remotes/origin/pr/* to this section. Obviously, change the github url to match your project's URL. It ends up looking like this:

Commented knife.rb for all the things
# Knife Configuration File.
#
# This is a Ruby DSL to set configuration parameters for Knife's
# general options. The default location for this file is
# ~/.chef/knife.rb. If multiple Chef repositories are used,
# per-repository configuration files can be created. A per repository
# configuration file must be .chef/knife.rb in the base directory of
# the Chef repository. For example,
#
# ~/Development/chef-repo/.chef/knife.rb

Why curl | sudo bash is good: it is simple single line, and uses the same channel that downloading a repository signing key would.

Easy one line Chef installation for all platforms (except windows)

curl https://www.opscode.com/chef/install.sh | sudo bash

That's it. This can be put in any instructions, such as a README or someone's blog, since the logic is in the shell script. Provided you download the script using https, the file has standard levels of authentication and encryption protecting it from manipulation.

This is obviously a shell script, if you're really concerned about the argument that it may contain nefarious activities within, you can easily review it before you run it.

Add a new disk to a VMWare vagrant box
config.vm.provider :vmware_fusion do |vm|
vdiskmanager = '/Applications/VMware\ Fusion.app/Contents/Library/vmware-vdiskmanager'
dir = "#{ENV['HOME']}/vagrant-additional-disk"
unless File.directory?( dir )
Dir.mkdir dir
end

I appreciate that you spent time in writing this post. I know I've been up until 2am writing similarly long ones as well. I will take responsibility for having what is likely an irrational response (I blame Twitter for that) to the term "NoOps", but I invite you to investigate why that might be. I'm certainly not the only one who feels this way, apparently, and thus far have decided this issue is easily the largest distraction in my field I've encountered in recent years. I have had the option to simply ignore my opposition to the term, and just let the chips fall where they may with how popular the term "NoOps" may or may not get. I have obviously not taken that option in the past, but I plan to in the future.

You're not an analyst saying "NoOps". Analysts are easy (for me) to ignore, because they're not practitioners. We have expectations of engineering maturity from practitioners in this field of web engineering, especially those we consider leaders. I don't have any expectations from analysts,

Auto-enable Local HTTP Caching in Test Kitchen

Note: total experiment and hack, looks nasty, could be awesome:

Setup

  • Drop the kitchen.local.yml into $HOME/.kitchen/config.yml
  • Install polipo (with Mac: brew install polipo, with Ubuntu: apt-get install polipo)
  • Drop polipo-start and polipo-console somewhere useful (perhaps $HOME/bin?)
