How to enable cuda support for tensor flow on Mac OS X (Updated on April:2016 Tensorflow 0.8)

These instructions will explain how to install tensorflow on mac with cuda enabled GPU suport. I assume you know what tensorflow is and why you would want to have a deep learning framework running on your computer.

Prerequisites

Make sure to update your homebrew formulas

brew update
# os : archlinux
# terminal : lilyterm
# font : ttf-dejavu
# source : https://gist.github.com/3feec5b12fcf07c6b64e
### export {{{
PATH=$PATH:$HOME/.rvm/bin
HISTFILE=~/.zsh_history
HISTSIZE=20000

Defeating region lock

Prerequisites

  • Somewhat modern version of OpenSSH
  • Server you have SSH access to in the region you want to stream from.

Bummed about region lock? Start up your terminal and do this:

$ ssh -N -D 9999 yourserver.com

RabbitMQ Basics

As demonstrated by the tutorials on the website, RabbitMQ can be used for everything from queuing background work to building RPC systems. To use RabbitMQ effectively, it is important to understand the core concepts: queues, exchanges, bindings, and messages. The documentation on rabbitmq.com is excellent, so I won't go into much depth, but it's worth briefly mentioning the core ideas.

Basic Terminology

Exchanges are where messages are sent. Every time a message is pushed in to RabbitMQ, it goes through an exchange.

Sandi Metz' four rules from Ruby Rogues episode 87. Listen or read the transcript: http://rubyrogues.com/087-rr-book-clubpractical-object-oriented-design-in-ruby-with-sandi-metz/
  1. Your class can be no longer than 100 lines of code.
  2. Your methods can be no longer than five lines of code.
  3. You can pass no more than four parameters and you can’t just make it one big hash.
  4. When a call comes into your Rails controller, you can only instantiate one object to do whatever it is that needs to be done. And your view can only know about one instance variable.

You can break these rules if you can talk your pair into agreeing with you.

Forked from https://gist.github.com/4489689 by elliottkember. CVE-2013-0156 is a nasty vulnerability in many versions of Rails. This script checks all your Heroku apps for this vulnerability in one quick (slow) move. More info: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/rubyonrails-security/61bkgvnSGTQ/discussion

Using synonyms in Elasticsearch

We create an index with:

  • two filters: synonyms_expand and synonyms_contract
  • two analyzers: synonyms_expand and synonyms_contract
  • three text fields:
    • text_1 uses the synonyms_expand analyzer at index and search time
    • text_2 uses the synonyms_expand analyzer at index time, but the standard analyzer at search time
    • text_3 uses the synonyms_contract analyzer at index and search time
