Bright and airy, the revamped Purple Nurple is an inclusive rainbow tapas bar for young and old alike.
Founded from the past of being an LGBT go-to, the bar has grown up. Exciting works of art pepper mediterranean-coloured walls, providing an ecclectic texture when combined with faded wooden, cushioned furniture and booths.
The bar has been kept, but the top of it has been covered in hammered sheet- copper, brightening the once club-like mien of the room. On top are stacked various teas, and behind it sits a diverse collection of liqueurs and bitters.
Where once there were bartenders, baristas and a rather bouncy-looking chef put together coffee drinks to order and small plates of salads, breads and cheeses, and other tasty treats.
A gentle murmur of discussion fills the air, fuelled by artisan coffee, beers and nibbles; beans and barley mixing into a light infusion. Occasionally, the music - barista's choice - rises in volume, but never overwhelming discussion.
The air is filled with the gentle scents of pour-over coffee and espresso, and the scent of fresh pastries, stronger in the morning when the ovens are running. Warm and welcoming, it's the inviting atmosphere of good friends.
A spiral staircase in the corner still leads to the apartments above the bar.
