I don't believe in awkwardness.

-Oscar Carlos (a friend)

Do I not destroy my enemies when I make them my friends?

-Lincoln

"I have no enemies here"

-Michael Cain (bbc)

The best predictor of future behavior is … past behavior

“I no longer have patience for certain things, not because I’ve become arrogant, but simply because I reached a point in my life where I do not want to waste more time with what displeases me or hurts me. I have no patience for cynicism, excessive criticism and demands of any nature. I lost the will to please those who do not like me, to love those who do not love me and to smile at those who do not want to smile at me. I no longer spend a single minute on those who lie or want to manipulate. I decided not to coexist anymore with pretense, hypocrisy, dishonesty and cheap praise. I do not tolerate selective erudition nor academic arrogance. I do not adjust either to popular gossiping. I hate conflict and comparisons. I believe in a world of opposites and that’s why I avoid people with rigid and inflexible personalities. In friendship I dislike the lack of loyalty and betrayal. I do not get along with those who do not know how to give a compliment or a word of encouragement. Exaggerations bore me and I have difficulty accepting those who do not like animals. And on top of everything I have no patience for anyone who does not deserve my patience.”

—Meryl Streep

Inspiring:

Afterall we are all made of stardust.

I don’t know whether this world has a meaning that transcends it. But I know that I cannot know that meaning and that it is impossible for me just now to know it. What can a meaning outside my condition mean to me? I can understand only in human terms. What I touch, what resists me — that I understand. And these two certainties — my appetite for the absolute and for unity and the impossibility of reducing this world to a rational and reasonable principle — I also know that I cannot reconcile them. What other truth can I admit without lying, without bringing in a hope I lack and which means nothing within the limits of my conditions?

-Camus, Le mythe de Sisyphe

The first time they tell you that the world's turning and you just can't quite believe it 'cause everything looks like it's standin' still. I can feel it. The turn of the Earth. The ground beneath our feet is spinnin' at 1,000 miles an hour and the entire planet is hurtling around the sun at 67,000 miles an hour, and I can feel it. We're fallin' through space, you and me, clinging to the skin of this tiny little world, and if we let go...

Life:

It's better to burn out than to fade away.

-Kurt Cobain

Eppur si muove

-Galilée

If you spend today thinking about yesterday, what are you going to do tomorrow?

If you want to live a happy life, tie it to a goal, not to people or things.

-Albert Einstein

“A ship is safe in harbor, but that's not what ships are for.”

― William G.T. Shedd

Your body wasn’t built to last

Nothing worth having comes easy.

Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted.

The brick walls are there for a reason. The brick walls are not there to keep us out; the brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something.

For the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: “If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?” And whenever the answer has been “No” for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.

-Steve Jobs

Slow down and stop worrying about what other people think or what this world expects from you. This world doesn't expect shit from anybody. The point of living when you know nothing has meaning is a self-defeatist statement. Nothing in this life does or doesn't have meaning; it's how you choose to look at life that will shape your views and beliefs. You can believe whatever the fuck you like, but if it isn't making you happy while you're here, why the fuck would you continue? Stop torturing yourself; it really will get you nowhere. I've been there. You should let your fear empower you instead of making you cower and gripe. Do something you're afraid of today and watch life hit you right back with some awesome. Nothing feels better than surprising yourself, doing something you never thought would be possible. Getting through an obstacle you once thought insurmountable will prove time and time again to put a smile back on your face. Log off, go out and do something that scares you [within the law, preferably].

If you want truly to understand something, try to change it.

-Kurt Lewin

It isn't what you have, or who you are, or where you are, or what you are doing that makes you happy or unhappy. It is what you think about.

-Dale Carnegie

Her: We can get into trouble! Him: That's how we know it's an adventure.

-Hugo

This raises the fascinating idea that effectively we create ourselves by choosing which memories to recall.

If you're going through hell, keep going.

-Churchill

"Don't promise when you're happy. Don't reply when you're angry. Don't decide when you're sad."

Work:

Whenever you read something you don't understand, that's the only chance you're ever given to recognize the opportunity to learn something new.

Have something to bring to the table, because that will make you more welcomed.

"If you want to increase your success rate, double your failure rate."

  • Thomas J. Watson

"Good judgment comes from experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgment*"

"Fools learn from experience, the wise learn from history."

Good:

One can easily judge the character of a person by the way they treat people who can do nothing for them.

Today you, tomorrow me -Someone on Reddit

Society

Those who surrender freedom for security will not have, nor do they deserve, either one.

-Thomas Jefferson

Nothing can now be believed which is seen in a newspaper. Truth itself becomes suspicious by being put into that polluted vehicle. . . . I will add, that the man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them; inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods & errors. He who reads nothing will still learn the great facts, and the details are all false.

-Thomas Jefferson, Letter to John Norvell (11 June 1807)

Writing

Him: What was your first book about? Her: Like any first book, about nothing and everything.

-Californication

I hate you, but I hate me more

Lord, protect me from my friends; I can take care of my enemies.

-Voltaire, 1694-1778

“Don't walk behind me; I may not lead. Don't walk in front of me; I may not follow. Just walk beside me and be my friend.”

― Albert Camus

“You will never be happy if you continue to search for what happiness consists of. You will never live if you are looking for the meaning of life.”

― Albert Camus

I was the alpha and the omega of my parent's suffering.
