NY Hearing Stats for Gov Press Release

Hi Folks,

WCB and the Governor’s office will be doing a formal press announcement on WCB’s virtual hearings in the coming weeks. This is very exciting. Our PIO is requesting some basic stats to weave into the announcement. Would it be possible for you guys to run a few queries to capture the following (time period is week of 10/9/2017 thru present) ?

Total virtual hearings conducted to date Total virtual hearings conducted with nobody attending virtually Total virtual hearings where 1 party attended virtually Total virtual hearings where 2 parties attended virtually Total virtual hearings where 3 parties attended virtually Total virtual hearings where more than 3 parties attended virtually

Answer to Daniel Dwyer's question about how I could have been better prepared for Turing...

Daniel,

I will definitely touch on that. Basically, I feel like I could have become more comfortable:

  1. Using my Mac: adding things like Spectacle to manage my windows and learning the shortcut keys.Learning to navigate without the mouse is very important.
  2. Typing code: There are sites like typing.io to practice writing all the weird characters in programming languages. An overlooked skill.
  3. Using the Command Line/Terminal/Shell: I had no idea what the Command Line was, what it could do, and how to enter commands for things like creating, editing, deleting, and opening files and folders. I could have set up aliases for common commands like moving up or down a directory in my shell/terminal/bash profile to navigate my filesystem more easily and use github (see below) better. Also included in this, I would have set some dotfiles in an environment profile to make my terminal pretty blu

The Site (How it Works):

  1. Find an artist(s)
  2. Browse their work
  3. Select items from their wishlist
  4. Pay for the items on Amazon
  5. Fill out a form to redeem your supporter gift
  6. The artist receives your contact information (address/email) so s/he can send you the gift
  7. You are now listed under the “Supporters” for the artist
  8. The artist is now listed under your “Artists I support”

Lightning Talk Module 4 Outline - "Global Startup Culture"
  • Define the term startup
  • Define the qualities of a startup hub
  • Discuss list of global startup hubs
  • How are hubs rated and by whom/which factors influenced the rankings/potential bias)?
  • Highlight global trends (new hubs emerging/fewer PCs more mobile devices/governmental role in "clusters of innovation")
  • How are these trends affecting those state and societies?
  • How could those trends affect the US / Silicon Valley, as the global leader in startup hubs?
  • Who is benefitting from the proliferation of global startup culture, and who is losing out?
  • How might these issues affect our future careers as developers?

Ideas for Turing Community Involvement

IDEAS FOR TURING COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

What does the community need in terms of technology? What technology is the community asking for that Turing students can provide (given the students' skill-sets and given what technologies students are learning)?

Guiding questions:

  • How can we as people, students, Turing-ians have the greatest benefit in the world?
  • What is stopping us from having that benefit in the world?
  • What do we have to offer in terms of time, skills, expertise, knowledge, effort?
