How and when did you decide to move onto a boat?

A few years ago, Devine went to Prague and met someone who lived on their boat. At the time, it didn’t seem like a possible lifestyle for us, but we’ve kept the idea at the back of our heads. We traveled a lot since the encounter in Prague, lived in Tokyo for 2 years, saw new places where we'd be happy living. We decided a year ago that we wanted to keep traveling; getting a boat seemed like the most logical step. A boat offers some stability, and if you get tired of the scenery you can lift anchor and go somewhere else. We figured we could learn to sail by ourselves.

Tell me a bit about 100 Rabbits, and about your careers as game designers.

Hundred Rabbits is the name of our design studio. We work on niche mobile games, music, podcasts and recently, video diaries on the liveabord lifestyle.

What have been some of the biggest challenges of living on a boat.

At first we thought the biggest challenge would be sailing itself, it turns out it isn’t all that hard. Right now our biggest issue is power, we both work on laptops and use power hungry programs(like Xcode and photoshop). We have solar panels but sometimes it isn’t enough to charge all of our devices. Internet is also a problem, we bust our cellphone data on a regular basis while at anchor. We’re learning to work differently and to take advantage of the moments when we do have power and internet connectivity.

Why do you think more people are becoming interested in living on boats?

We feel people want to live with less, to not feel weighed down by possessions and debt. Not everyone has the money to buy a place of their own, a boat is a creative solution to this problem. Not to mention the housing prices of Vancouver.

What has been the most amazing/satisfying parts of your experience?

The people we met while between being moored in yacht clubs and anchored in bays. We spent countless evenings on new friends' boats, exchanging sailing stories and advices. Incessently learning while doing projects on the boat. Also, the sunsets.

Any advice to people who are thinking about living on a boat?

You can learn everything you need to learn about sailing on Youtube.

Tell me a bit about your boat. We live on a 33' sailboat, built in 1982 by Yamaha, named PINO. Its lenght is the perfect size for 2 people living aboard, and also has a few extra beds that can host family or friends. We have 2 solar panels, together generating 160W of power. We have extra details on the sailboat at http://100r.co
