storytelling reflection

What Brought Me Here: I've lived in a lot of places and done a lot of things! But computers have always been a big part of my life. I built my first computer when I was 19 and have built many since then. During my ten years as a mechanical designer I was a fairly advance computer user - even being tasked with network adminstration at a small company. In a way, coding has been inevitable. I'm actually a bit surprised it's taken me this long to take it on.

My Values: I value personal growth, problem-solving, thinking skills, and quality of life. Software development is ideal.

Turing So Far: Being at Turing is a lesson in humility, grit, self-belief, health, and emotional stability. I've been finding that being growth-oriented is really paying off, helping me to quite negative internal "conversations" when the arise.

I've found the bootcamp environment to be a challenge. I'm used to formal academics where the culture is to take your time and research things thoroughly. The environment at Turing is significantly more rushed. I see both plusses and minuses to it overall, but it is certainly motivating my focus.

My career goal is simply to do interesting problem-solving that matters, and to contribute to a positive working environment that values a work-life balance.

Hey Norm, nice work with this draft! I appreciate how you've condensed your background in a way that emphasizes your love for technology and then you move into your journey into it. For future iterations of this story, I would recommend taking out the sections of this to have it flow as one complete summary, and I would also recommend taking out the details about how learning at Turing feels rushed to you -- I understand that feeling, but you'd want to find a way to spin this in a more positive direction for sharing with employers. How has the fast-paced environment helped you understand the world of software development?
