Docker-compose wait-to-start

When unsing docker compose you can have a problem with the order of dependent linked containers

The solution is to start a script which tries to access a service and waits until it gets ready before loading your program

Using Erlang observer/appmon remotely

Using OTP's observer (appmon replacement) remotely

$ ssh remote-host "epmd -names"
epmd: up and running on port 4369 with data:
name some_node at port 58769

Note the running on port for epmd itself and the port of the node you're interested in debugging. Reconnect to the remote host with these ports forwarded:

$ ssh -L 4369:localhost:4369 -L 58769:localhost:58769 remote-host

Bulk search & replace with ag (the_silver_searcher)
# ag <https://github.com/ggreer/the_silver_searcher>
# usage: ag-replace.sh [search] [replace]
# caveats: will choke if either arguments contain a forward slash
# notes: will back up changed files to *.bak files
ag -0 -l $1 | xargs -0 perl -pi.bak -e "s/$1/$2/g"
# or if you prefer sed's regex syntax:
ag -0 -l $1 | xargs -0 sed -ri.bak -e "s/$1/$2/g"
