This is based on my limited initial experience with Brave browser on Linux (Ubuntu desktop). There are subtle differences for Android that I'll put in a separate document when I've actually applied my changes in a methodical way.
-
Get started: Profile name and icon.
-
Import bookmarks from your previous browser (e.g., Chrome or Firefox). Brave is your default browser.
-
On startup: Open a specific page or set of pages. Enter your homepage.
-
Appearance: Brave colors, Dark. On Ubuntu, also pick GTK theme.
-
Show home button. Add your home page URL (https://www.example.com).
-
Show bookmarks: Always. Enable Show bookmarks button, Show tab search button.
-
Disable Show Brave News button. Enable Show autocomplete suggestions in address bar.
-
Show Sidebar: Never.
-
New Tab Page. Set to homepage URL added in 5 above.
-
Shields. Show the number of blocked items: Disable.
-
Brave Rewards. Disable all.
-
Social Media blockiing. Disable all except Allow use of third-party cookies.
-
Privacy and security. Disable WebRTC, P3A, daily ping to Brave, automatic diagnostic reports, Improve search suggestions, and Private window with Tor (I already have the Tor Browser installed everywhere).
-
Sync Settings, Customize sync: Enable for bookmarks only.
-
Search engine. Take your pick, just not Google or Bing.
-
Extensions. Disable all except Allow Google login.
-
Web3. Disable all (set wallets to "Extensions (no fallback)", IPFS to Disabled, Web3 Domains to Disabled).
-
Autofill and passwords. Disable All (Password Manager, Payment methods, Addresses and more).
-
System. On Linux, disable "Use hardware acceleration...". It's experimental, and a waste of time.
-
Add the following extensions from the Chrome store: uBlock Origin, Bitwarden.
"Brave". Privacy Guides: Desktop Browsers. https://www.privacyguides.org/en/desktop-browsers/#brave.
