Moneyball Rules

Changelog

v. 3.0.0

  • created, ignoring all previous incarnations of the rules, from draft of an email

v 3.0.1

  • Clarifications

Rules

  • While in possession still, the Moneyball is played from each tee box, until the hole is finished or the ball is lost during course of play. If a Moneyball is lost during a hole, it is replaced with a regular ball, and all special Moneyball rules are forfeited for that hole.

  • The player in possession of the Moneyball is rotated for each hole

  • During the first putting round, given the Moneyball is still in play for the hole, the player with the Moneyball earns a -1 bonus for his team if he sinks his putt. This is known as the Bonus Putt.

  • During the first putting round, but only on 1 hole per 9 holes, the moneyball player, if the ball is still in his possession, may take a second attempt after the rest of the players, including himself during his "bonus putt", have missed the putt. This is known as The Puttigan, or, if he makes it "The Save".

    • If he makes it, there is no additional reward other than saving his team another stroke.
    • If he misses it, there is no penalty and the ball can be played from the best position (? or from the save location?)
  • "The Golden Goose": In the event that a player other than the Moneyballer sinks the putt, the Moneyballer can opt to go for the "Golden Goose", wherein they can attempt to make the "Bonus Putt" with the following risk/reward characteristics:

    • If he makes it, his team earns a -1 bonus as per the Bonus Putt rules
    • If he misses it, therein becoming a "goat", the previous make is nullified. At that point, the "goat" can attempt to "ungoat" himself with a "puttigan". After a missed Golden Goose and a missed puttigan, play resumes from the closest of those two misses, without additional penalty.
