ran for student government; served on a finance committee, student and university senate
changed major to computer science
learned C, C++, Java and a little perl
went to LISA twice as a student, first sysadmin conference
was first network security student employee; worked with FBI, security features for UNIX systems
wrote undergrad thesis on monitoring system using petri nets for anomaly detection

graduated. applied for jobs.
got massively lowballed by a SV sysadmin company (compared notes with male friends)
read Perl in 21 days before interview at Intel listing perl as #1 job qualification.
took job at Intel

got a crappy perl script accepted as a contribution to RRDTool, my favorite network tool
... and the rest, is:
