Sync

rsync.net

This is the service I use. I think it is much better than something like dropbox.

Backup

Jottacloud

pCloud

hubiC

  • 25GB free
  • €1 incl. VAT/month or €10 incl. VAT/year 100GB
  • €5 incl. VAT/month or €50 incl. VAT/year 10TB
  • No maximum file size.
  • Applications for all mainstream platforms including Windows Phone 8.
  • OVH API, e.g. hubicfuse and rclone (rsync for cloud storage).

CrashPlan

  • $9.99/m.
  • Unlimited cloud space.
  • Unlimited file size.
  • Unlimited file versions.
  • Keep deleted files for ever (if you prefer).
  • Support backup files on external drives. (Since CrashPlan doesn’t distinguish between files that have been deleted from your computer and those that are temporarily unavailable because a drive is disconnected. If you disconnect your external drive, we recommend configuring CrashPlan to never remove deleted files from your backup archive.)
  • Backup sets frees you to handpick and prioritize what files go where, and how often.
  • $6/m, $60/yr, $110/2yr
  • Unlimited cloud space.
  • Unlimited file size.
  • Support backup files on external drives.
  • Mac OS X and Windows only.
  • Restore via web or external disks (internationally, as long as reachable by FedEx) Return the disk within 30 days of receipt to get the restore fee refunded (effectively the cost is only the returning ship).
  • Accepts bitcoin.
  • $0.004/GB per month
  • for archival purpose only

Free CDN providers

CloudFlare

International

  • GitHub
  • BitBucket: also support hg, unlimited private repos.
  • Unfuddle Stack: private projects with ticktes and notebooks, 512 MB storage.

Reviews of host providers

Mail forwarding

gmail.com offers forwarding too.

chi.mp offers free domain (and mail forwarding). I've registered mail@weakish.mp and weakish@expr.mp.

There are other free email forwarding providers, but the mail addresses they provide are not nice.

about.me offers mail forwarding as user@about.me backed up by AOL. I've claimed weakish@about.me but I've not activated it. It's not mail forwarding, but you have pop access to AOL mail.

  • Note: I have used ChicagoVPS in 2013-2014. The billing via paypal was recurring, but they still sent unpaid alert email to me. And I forgot the payment was recurring (billed half year ago) and paid manually. Later, the recurring payment took effect and I had been charged twice. Their support staff said refund would be in "next refund batch". Later they said that they were moving my ticket to the billing department. But still no refund. Then I exchanged several support tickets with them over several months and they were just keep asking about the transaction IDs (which I repeated in several tickets) and saying moving the ticket to billing or concern department again and again. After 6 months there was still no refund (until my VPS suspended).
