About a month ago, when I upgraded my license for Sublime Text ($80), I made a mistake and bought a new license ($99). When I sent an email asking for a refund of the difference, Sublime HQ was willing to accept the refund. This article introduces the episode.
Sublime Text has a separate license purchase page and license upgrade page. I should have used the latter license upgrade page because I already have a license, but I made a mistake and bought a new license on the former license purchase page.
The difference is $19 as the license upgrade is $80 for a new license purchase of $99. The recent depreciation of the JPY has made $1 about 130 JPY, so $19 is 2,470 JPY. If I have 2,470 JPY, I can eat something delicious. It's my mistake, so I can't help if I don't get a refund. However, believing in the chance, I sent the following fluent English email.
Dear Sir or Madam,
I'm Tatsuya Susukida and just bought a Sublime Text license. But I made a mistake. I already bought a license in 2016. So I should have upgraded my license instead of buying new one. If passible, could you refund difference? Best regards,
The next day, I received an email from a person in charge of sales of Sublime HQ.
Hi Tatsuya,
Thank you for your email.
Unfortunately we cannot provide partial refunds, so I have refunded the full new purchase; you should see the funds back on your account in the next few business days.
Despite my mistake, Sublime HQ was willing to give me a refund. Since I used a credit card at the time of purchase, I think there was a refund fee. What a wonderful support.
