Everything just.. works, in Horizon. This entire list will probably be rather opinionated, and, as background, I've played very few games, so I probably won't have particularly good opinions either. But here they are:

  • The camera. It's so fluid! - At this point, the cameras in other games frustrate me, so maybe what I've found wrong with other games is more helpful. In other games, the camera is glued to the player. If your player moves left a foot, so does the camera, at the very same speed. Those games always keep the character in the absolute center of the screen. Worse, they often force the camera to sort of chase the player, making the camera always rotate towards the direction your character is facing. This is really, really disorienting - I'd expect it in a car racing game, but in one where I'm just trying to look around, maybe towards an enemy to my side or maybe to appreciate the scenery, automatically rotating the camera this way is a huge frustration. Sort of dizzying, especially on a big screen. (Luckily I've found that some games have options to turn off this automatic rotation, but definitely not all do.)

  • I'm sure I'm just playing bad games, but - I've found that, when I use my plain old attack button, different moves come out, in unpredictable patterns. There's no logic to it; whether my hero spins in a circle, cuts in an arc around their body, or runs forwards - is all dependent on a roll of dice. Again, yeah, that's totally the fault of the games I'm playing, and maybe I'm being unfair, since the one I'm thinking of is a game for relatively young kids where battle isn't exactly a huge focus, but.. I mean, I'd expect that if you're going to add a battle system, you'd do it right - is being able to predict what moves I'll use (or even - gasp - control them!) that big of a request?

  • I can't point to anything that Horizon does which is dumb. Want to close a UI? Press the circle button. And yet I've found games where you.. can't do that? Imagine if, when clicking on "play movie" on a weapon at any shop in Horizon, and you can't get out of that video until you watch it all. Now imagine that video being three minutes long. That's a thing I've seen. I can't see how games developed with any playtesting involved would have problems like this.
