Poor Man's Fasting Mimicking Diet

The goal is to achieve as safely and comfortably as possible a Seyfried's Glucose Ketone Index (GKI) less than 1.0 to improve health over a 5 day period.

Sunday May 6 - Thursday May 10 2018

Lead Up

For two days before beginning fast, sample and record blood glucose, blood ketone, weight, and body composition.

Fasting Protocol

Twice daily, preferably at regular times once in AM and once in PM, perform the following steps and record the time and results:

  • Sample blood glucose level
  • Sample blood ketone level
  • Sample weight / body composition
  • Eat one avacado thin sliced and covered with 1 scant TBSP Tamari (soy sauce) (or eat 1x meal prepared from recipes below)
  • Take 1-2 tablespoons of vitaminearl greens powder with meal
  • Optionally have a 6~8oz cup of coffee or tea (herbal/green/chamomile during PM)
  • Optionally take 1-2x coconut charcoal capsules (out of sync of eating e.g. right before bed)

Drink plenty of filtered water† throughout the day

†If you're urine is particularly low pH (acidic), consider buying or making some sort of Alkaline water w/ electrolytes and cutting out coffee.

Breaking Fast

For two days after breaking fast, sample and record blood glucose, blood ketone, weight, and body composition.

Don't eat too heavily at first, start with smaller amounts of soups etc.

Also don't immediately eat many sugary carbs immediately as you may experience allergy like symptoms - see link below on Psysiologic Insulin Resistance.

Feel free to write in a journal and/or share experiences with those doing this with you.

Warning

Keep an eye out for any of the following symptoms:

  • Blood glucose falling below ~55 mg/dL
  • Ketosis flu / naseau
  • Heartburn
  • Dehydration
  • Getting dizzy when you stand up might indicate Orthostatic Hypotension
  • Blood glucose may actual rise as you keto adapt see reference on Physiologic Insulin Resistance below
