Download all your photobucket images in bulk via CLI

backstory

On Jul 4, 2017 theverge.com posted an article about photobucket (silently) no longer allowing their users to source their images on 3rd party websites for free, thus leaving websites all over the web broken displaying the following image in replace:

Me being one of those individual, I attempted to go into my photobucket account and download my content as I now have my own hosting I am able to store those images on; however, the only ways to bulk download (on desktop) is by downloading albums through their interface. Doing so, gave me the following error message: "Hmmm. Something didn't click. Want to give it another shot? Try again now."

Doing this serveral times, in different browsers (chrome, firefox and safari), after disabling all my addons and extensions (including ad blockers), it still didn't work.

At this point, doing anything on their website w

Storing Images and Demos in your Repo

Storing Images and Demos in your Repo

In this quick walkthough you'll learn how to create a separate branch in your repo to house your screenshots and demo gifs for use in your master's readme.

How to

1. Clone a fresh copy of your repo

In order to prevent any loss of work it is best to clone the repo in a separate location to complete this task.

2. Create a new branch

Create a new branch in your repo by using git checkout --orphan assets

"Grouped variant images". Solution good for all themes, no change to markup required.

What to do

  1. Use the alt text to associate the additional images - besides the variant image - to the option value. Example: say you have 3 images that show the Blue variants, then a) associate the first image as variant image to all Blue variants, and b) set the alt text of the 2 additional images to 'Blue'.
  2. Copy+paste the code found in the product.liquid snippet below at the bottom of your product.liquid template.

How that works, essentially

Only the images associated to the currently selected variant are shown. Other images are hidden.

What to expect, the specifics

Hide variant images on the product page, so that a variant image is shown as main image only when its corresponding variant is selected.

The goal

Hide the thumbnails of variant images on the product page.

How to do that

  1. Add a class of 'variant-image' to the wrapper of each thumbnail that is a variant image. See first product.liquid snippet.
  2. Hide all .variant-image elements with CSS in the theme's stylesheet. See second style.scss.liquid snippet.

This snippet is used to showcase each product during the loop,

If however the product has variants, we'll show the variants instead.
