The 90 belugas and 11 Orca captured by a russian company this summer are being help in a so-called whale prison in Far East Russia. The whales are held in a total of 10 cells, appearing to be not much bigger than basketball courts according to a video posted by Russia today. President Kenyatta of Kenya said on Sunday during a round-table discussion on "Don't drop climate efforts" in a session of the Paris Peace Forum in France That the country now targets 100 per cent transition to green energy by 2020 to address the climate change challenge.

Bristol has declared a “climate emergency”, with the council unanimously backing a commitment to be carbon neutral by 2030 in an effort to avoid catastrophic climate breakdown. The motion was put forward by Green party councillor Carla Denyer and passed on Tuesday

The Republic of Congo has officially created its fifth national park, leading to the protection of the critically endangered western lowland gorilla, scientifically named Gorilla Gorilla Gorilla, and the central chimpanzee. The new Park spans 3,500 square kilometers (1,350 square miles), encompasses savannah, separated by long strips of dense forest and river valleys, and borders a national park in Gabon. Together, the two national parks form a transboundary protected area covering more than 5,500 square kilometers (2,120 square miles).

The Canadian government is investing $153 million in the Prairie-based Protein Industries Canada Supercluster who’s aim is to use plant genomics and novel processing technology to increase the value of key Canadian crops, such as canola, wheat and pulses that are coveted in high-growth foreign markets, such as China and India, and to satisfy growing markets in North America and Europe for plant-based meat alternatives and new food products. The investment will be met dollar-for-dollar by the private sector.

According to a draft law the Ministry for Ecological Transition published Tuesday, Spain’s is proposing to ban the sale of vehicles that depend on fossil fuels (including hybrids) by 2040, according to a document the ministry sent Earther. Electric cars and their charging stations will take over. Spain also plans to take its electricity production 100 percent renewable by 2050, which will further help it reduce its greenhouse gas emissions to 90 percent below 1990 levels by then.

According to WRKN in Nasheville Tennessee, On Tuesday morning, A disgruntled former employee of a nearby oil refinery has confessed to intentionally discharging tens of thousands of gallons of oil. A good portion of the oil leaked into nearby Lytle Creek which was virtually dry at the time. Dustin Keener returned to the scene of the crime, hours later, only after calling in an anonymous tip to police reporting the spill.

A Federal-court judge of United States District Court for Montana has blocked construction on the 1,179-mile Keystone XL pipeline, which would carry 800,000 barrels a day of petroleum from the Canadian oil sands to the US Gulf Coast. The administration of US President Donald Trump failed to review the project’s environmental impacts properly before issuing a permit for the pipeline, Judge Brian Morris said in a ruling last week. He added that the administration had “simply discarded” the Keystone XL pipeline’s potential impacts on greenhouse-gas emissions and climate change, rather than justifying its decision to allow the project to move forwards.
