Very nice! By the way, I had some issues with stty in Ubuntu, I fixed replacing stty -ixon by [[ $- == i ]] && stty -ixon
This is an awesome collection
The file /etc/SuSE-release has been marked as depreciated since openSUSE 13.1.
I replaced that with cat /usr/lib/os-release
@zachbrowne Is there a way I can fork and change the arrow to a dollar sign? like instead of > to have $ at the prompt before issuing commands?
Why are we forcing vim as an alias for nano? Seems so counterintuitive.
Hi Zac,
I really like your work and been using this bashrc for a while.
Just encountered a problem with "cpg" function. -r switch seems missing to copy a directory.
Hi Zac,
Incredible .bashrc file.
Regards.
Anyone has tried to add a feature to show the git branch name in the prompt.
This is amazing man, Thanks for great work.
I used a lot of this in my /etc/profile.d folder, honestly all the system users are getting my version by default, so we'll see how that goes. On the prompt portion at the end of line 646, I think it should read $(date +%b-'%-d')
not %-m
since this shows Sep-9
instead of Sep-27
. Consider changing the last line to PROMPT_COMMAND="__setprompt; $PROMPT_COMMAND"
to preserve the history changes made in line 39. Thanks again for sharing!
Can you add the branch name ?
To add Git Branch Name
# PS4 is used for tracing a script in debug mode
PS4='\[${DARKGRAY}\]+\[${NOCOLOR}\] '
# Show git branch
PS1+="\[${DARKGRAY}\](\[${YELLOW}\]\$(git branch 2>/dev/null | grep '^*' | colrm 1 2)\[${DARKGRAY}\])\[${NOCOLOR}\] "
Btw, $HOME
is the default argument for cd
on at least any version of bash I have ever encountered, and at least in some other shells too (like zsh and fish).
This is very well done !
Just being curious, your script refers to a help file, if you wrote it, it must be very nice as well !
Would you share it ?
alias hlp='less ~/.bashrc_help'
Thank you so much Zach for such an amazing bash file 🚀
Saved my time. Thanks! For arch, might you consider,
