Example usage of Elm "ports" that uses signals, non-signals, records, and tuples. Build the Elm code with "elm --only-js Shanghai.elm" and include all of the JS in the HTML document.
// initialize the Shanghai component which keeps track of
// shipping data in and out of the Port of Shanghai.
var shanghai = Elm.worker(Elm.Shanghai, {
coordinates:[0,0],
incomingShip: { name:"", capacity:0 },
outgoingShip: ""
});
function logger(x) { console.log(x) }

Explain Mocha's testing framework - describe(), it() and before()/etc hooks
// # Mocha Guide to Testing
// Objective is to explain describe(), it(), and before()/etc hooks
// 1. `describe()` is merely for grouping, which you can nest as deep
// 2. `it()` is a test case
// 3. `before()`, `beforeEach()`, `after()`, `afterEach()` are hooks to run
// before/after first/each it() or describe().
//
// Which means, `before()` is run before first it()/describe()

A very simple, seedable JavaScript PRNG. NOTE: Please read comments on why this is not a good choice.

What forces layout/reflow. The comprehensive list.

What forces layout / reflow

All of the below properties or methods, when requested/called in JavaScript, will trigger the browser to synchronously calculate the style and layout*. This is also called reflow or layout thrashing, and is common performance bottleneck.

Generally, all APIs that synchronously provide layout metrics will trigger forced reflow / layout. Read on for additional cases and details.

Element APIs

Getting box metrics
  • elem.offsetLeft, elem.offsetTop, elem.offsetWidth, elem.offsetHeight, elem.offsetParent

@kangax's ES6 quiz, explained

@kangax created a new interesting quiz, this time devoted to ES6 (aka ES2015). I found this quiz very interesting and quite hard (made myself 3 mistakes on first pass).

Here we go with the explanations:

Question 1:
(function(x, f = () => x) {
