//requires jQuery
$(window).scroll(function(){
var threshold = 200; // number of pixels before bottom of page that you want to start fading
var op = (($(document).height() - $(window).height()) - $(window).scrollTop()) / threshold;
if( op <= 0 ){
$("#thing-to-hide").hide();
} else {
$("#thing-to-hide").show();

What forces layout/reflow. The comprehensive list.

What forces layout / reflow

All of the below properties or methods, when requested/called in JavaScript, will trigger the browser to synchronously calculate the style and layout*. This is also called reflow or layout thrashing, and is common performance bottleneck.

Generally, all APIs that synchronously provide layout metrics will trigger forced reflow / layout. Read on for additional cases and details.

Element APIs

Getting box metrics
  • elem.offsetLeft, elem.offsetTop, elem.offsetWidth, elem.offsetHeight, elem.offsetParent

Revert Gist Commits

Revert / Undo a Gist Commit

It was not exactly obvious. Here's how to revert a Gist commit!

Checkout the gist like a normal git repo:

# replace the Gist ID with your own
git clone git@github.com:cc13e0fcf2c348cc126f918e4a3917eb.git

Treat it like a normal repo. Edit, force push, etc.

GPG signing with Git and Github Desktop

GPG signing – git github-desktop

Here is a short guide that will help you setup your environment to create signed commits or signed tags with Git locally. This has been extensively tested on Windows with Git and the Github Desktop application: I use it every day for my professional development projects.

I you face any issue, feel free to leave a comment below.

Summary

  1. Sign commits or tags
  2. Key passphrase
  3. Disable signatures
  4. Renew a GPG key
